Seniors Programs

The Goal of the 55 and Better Club is to Exercise the Body, Educate the Mind and Make New Friends

Exciting things are going on in the Medina Community Recreation Center for the 55 and Better goup! From the 55 and Better Guest Lecture Series to Pickleball, Bunco, Walking Club, Wii Bowling, Euchre, Chess, and Craft Series - there's always something going on for the seniors in our community.

The 55 and Better Guest Lecture Series is held at the Medina Recreation Center Community Rooms, just off the lobby. Join us to learn about important topics and issues, meet doctors, healthy living information and lots more. The free lectures are held on certain Fridays from 10:30- 11:30 am. Lunch or refreshments to follow each lecture. A very generous group of local assisted living facilities and other businesses provide the delicious lunches for the events. McDonald's on North Court Street and Route 3 South provide the coffee and tea. For more information, contact Susan Becks 330-721-6934.

If you are an MCRC member, you can walk before or after the program. Non-members can walk before the program for just $1.

SENIOR WALKING CLUB 

Get healthy, stay active, and meet new friends in the MCRC's Senior Sneakers Walking Club! Walk or jog around the track for some great aerobic activity. Log your miles running or walking the track, using the treadmill or elliptical or swimming laps in the pool or taking exercise classes. Earn incentives for staying active and reaching mile goals. Fee is per day of participation - Free for MCRC Members and Silver Sneakers Members and $1 for non-members to come and walk on Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30 am.
 

SENIOR PICKLEBALL

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the world. We play indoors on the Field House courts. Pickleball is similar to tennis but on a smaller scale and not as strenuous. Meets on Mondays, Wednesdays  and Fridays September thru May from 8:00  to 10:00 am with a different schedule during the summer months. Fee is per day of participation. Free for MCRC Silver Sneakers and Optum Fitness members, $4 for non-members. No registration needed just show up when you can.

Wii BOWLING

Get healthy, stay active and meet new friends. Class meets every second and fourth Friday of the month from 10:00-11:30 am. Whether you have played Wii bowling or not, come and learn or hone your skills. Fee is per day of participation. Free for MCRC and Silver Sneakers members, $1 for non-members. No registration needed just show up when you can.
 

SENIOR BUNCO

Have testing your luck and rolling the dice at the MCRC. Class meets the first Tuesday of every month at 10:00 am in the cafe. Fee is per day of participation. Free for MCRC, Silver Sneakers members and Optum Firness Members, $1 for non-members. No registration needed just show up when you can.
 

GIFTS FROM THE HEART KNITTING & CROCHET

Bring your own supplies and make something for yourself or to donate to a local charity! All are welcome whether you are new or experienced at crocheting/knitting! Refreshments sponsored by Brookdale Senior Living Medina South and North.
 

EUCHRE & CHESS GROUP 

Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am to 12 pm in the cafe. Free for members, $1 for non-members
 

SENIOR CRAFT SERIES 

Join us to make a fun craft project brought to us by Michele from Griswold Home Care. There is a $5 donation payable to the instructor at the start of each class. Great for men and women! Exercise and social interaction are essential in ensuring the health and well being of our senior members. The MCRC offers fitness & wellness programs specific to senior needs as well as educational seminars, social networking opportunities, and enrichment programs designed to encourage fun and increase quality of life. If you’re a group retiree or part of a Medicare health plan, you may qualify to receive a free SilverSneakers membership benefit. SilverSneakers Classic
This is a gentle, low-impact workout for mature audiences, Improve overall strenght, flexibility and ballance,. Work to sty healthy and maintain your independence. Instructor guides you through exercies at your own pace. Class includes stretching and relaxation. Free for SilverSneakers members. Click on the Program Brochure below for class times and registration information.
 
SilverSneakers Splash
Activate your urge for variety! Splash offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. No swimming ability is required, and a SilverSneakers kickboard or other aquatic equipment is used to improve strength, balance and coordination. Shallow water moves to improve flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. Offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:45- 11:30am and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am - 9:45am. There is a $8 (members) or $10 (non-members) drop-in fee per class for non-SilverSneakers members.
 
SilverSneakers Yoga
In this special yoga class you will learn gentle, effective stretching, Maintain joint flexibility and prevent injury, improve muscle tone and learn to relax. Free for SilverSneakers members.
